Classes and Reservations
Is prior experience required to enroll in a class?
Not at all! We offer classes for every experience level, and our beginner classes are designed for students with absolutely no sewing experience. Whether you’re trying sewing for the very first time or brushing up on skills you learned years ago, we’ll guide you every step of the way in a fun and welcoming environment.
What materials should I bring?
It depends on the class! Many beginner classes provide everything you need to get started on the first day, and patterns are often included. Your confirmation email will let you know exactly what supplies or fabric to bring, so you can arrive excited and ready to create.
How does a one-day class differ from a semester-long class?
Our one-day workshops are perfect if you’re looking for a fun, hands-on introduction to sewing or want to complete a project in a single day. Semester-long classes give you more time to build your skills, learn advanced techniques, and practice in between classes. No matter which option you choose, you’ll leave feeling inspired and confident!
Can I register for a class at a different location?
Absolutely! You can register for classes at any of our locations, so you’re welcome to choose the studio that’s most convenient for you. If you’re enrolled in a multi-week semester course, all class sessions must be completed at the same location to ensure consistency with your instructor, sewing equipment, and classroom experience. You’re always welcome to take different classes at different locations in future semesters!
What is your policy on cancellations?
We understand that pllans can change, and we’re happy to help whenever possible. Group classes require cancellation or rescheduling at least 72 hours before the class begins. Private lessons require cancellation or rescheduling at least 24 hours in advance, and private events and parties require cancellation or rescheduling at least 7 days in advance. These policies allow us to properly schedule instructors, prepare materials, and provide the best possible experience for every student and guest.
What can I expect from private lessons?
Private lessons are completely personalized and designed around your goals, schedule, and experience level. Whether you’re learning to sew for the first time, working on a specific project, or mastering advanced techniques, you’ll receive one-on-one instruction at your own pace. It’s the most flexible way to build your sewing skills with expert guidance!
Locations and visits
Which location is best for me?
Our Manhattan Flagship is our largest location, featuring seven classrooms, a full retail shop, and hundreds of students attending classes every week. Our neighborhood studios offer a more intimate setting with one to three classrooms while still providing the same expert instructors, hands-on curriculum, and welcoming community. No matter which location you choose, you’ll receive the same exceptional sewing education and creative experience.
Do all locations offer the same classes?
Most of our locations offer the same core classes, including our most popular beginner and intermediate sewing courses. Because each studio is a different size, some specialty classes, workshops, and events may only be available at select locations. You can always browse each location’s schedule to see the classes currently being offered.
Do all locations have a sewing shop?
Yes! Every New York Sewing Center location features a retail shop where you can purchase sewing supplies, fabric, patterns, sewing supplies and sewing machines. Our Manhattan Flagship offers the largest selection, while our neighborhood studios are stocked with everything you need to support your classes and creative projects.
Do I need to visit the location before my first class?
No visit is necessary! Simply arrive a few minutes before your class begins, and our friendly team will help you get checked in and settled into your classroom. We’re excited to welcome you and make your first sewing experience a great one.
Are more locations coming soon?
Yes! We’re continuing to expand The New York Sewing Center with new studios in additional cities, making it easier than ever to learn to sew close to home. As we grow, every location will continue to offer the same high-quality instruction, supportive community, and hands-on learning experience that we’re known for.
Are sewing machines and equipment provided at all locations?
Yes! Every New York Sewing Center location is fully equipped with sewing machines, irons, cutting tables, and all of the classroom equipment you’ll need during class. Just bring any required materials listed in your class description, and we’ll have everything else ready for you.

Depending on the course, patterns and select materials may also be included. Any additional supplies you’ll need are listed on the class page before you register and also sent in a confirmation email after booking.
